Blogging is not an overnight success. I’ve said this time and again in this guide, but I simply can’t help it.
People quit blogging because they don’t fail to make any profit from it. They fail to continue to give that persistency that is required to build a profitable blog.
It takes months or sometimes years to build a loyal following of readers from which you can make a measurable profit either through ads, affiliate marketing or any other source. However, the process can be smoothened if you’ve a long term blogging strategy, which is exactly what I’m going to discuss here.
The very key to create a blog that produces a long-term income is planning. A clear cut strategy is required if your wishing to make money from your blog (long term).
Darren Rowse has been blogging for more than 8 years and is now making a 6 digit income simply through blogging. Unlike many others, he did not quit half way down the road. He had a long term plan and he implemented it beautifully.
Even a small vendor plans before opening his/her shop. He researches his place, his target audience, and his competitors and then plans to open his/her shop. This is exactly what you need to do for long term blogging. You need to make sure that you set you shop in the right place at the right time for right kind of people. You have to do this to build a sustainable blogging business.
You cannot take your business over a long run with the topic in which you are not interested. It’s going to take a year or so to see some profits churning out a blog. You need to stick to your niche for the entire time to create long term blogging strategy. You’ll have to write topics that are within or related to your niche.
Having said that, you need to select a niche that offers a plenty of things to blog about, but it should also interest you. You should love your niche. You should have passion for it. Once you start writing on an interested niche, limitless topics will start churning out themselves.
C. Create An Idea Bank:
You need to have a lot of ideas to write about. It’s not easy to stick on a single topic and write for 10-15 years. What you need to do is to create an idea bank where you can deposit your ideas for future use. There are many ways to generate post ideas. Store them in a excel sheet so that you can write about them in future. Use an Evernote everywhere. Jot down any idea as soon as your mind clicks. Always keep a sufficient amount of topics beforehand. In case, you feel don’t feel like creating ideas, you should be prepared to get inspired from your idea bank.
Decide on what type of blog you want and how you plan to handle posting. Many bloggers publish posts five times a week, but the schedule of posting in your hands. It is important that you publish regularly, not frequently. If you are not able to publish five posts a week, then publish at least one. But maintain this frequency over a long time . People tend to forget quickly and you definitely don’t want people to forget you. Keep reminding them of your presence and your business by posting regularly.
Work on a rhythm. Take it as a profession. Blogging at an unsustainable pace will make you stop at once. This may affect the quality of your blog which will repel your present audience.
E. Have A Vision:
Always has a vision of what you want to achieve within a particular period of time. Divide your future goals into sub parts and then try to achieve them. Don’t be too modest with yourself. This will make you complacent. Set goals that are tough but practically achievable. Achieving smaller goals will give you the motivation and inspiration to go for higher goals in building long term blogging strategy.
Don’t satisfy yourself if you’ve achieved your pre-decided goal. Yes, you can give yourself a pat on the back, but, go for more. Set some higher goals.
F. Engage WithYour Readers:
You cannot hold your long term blogging business too long without your readers. It’s not enough to bring traffic to your blog, you have to engage with your readers at a personal level. Start socializing with them. Make them feel a part of a big community. This will give them a reason to keep coming back. Be active in your comments. Use your email effectively to build relationship. Make use of social networks to interact. Here’s a social media marketing guide to help you with this. Enlarging your presence along with your readers at a constant rate will help you in a greater manner to build a sustainable business through long term blogging strategy.
G. Keep A Track Of Your Milestones:
In your blogging career, always keep a track of what you’ve achieved. You’ve achieved 1000 subscribers, write it down. An industry expert praises your blog, write it down. You’ve sold 100 eBooks, write it down. Jot down all the money that came from different sources (ads, affiliations etc.) A popular blog links to your blog, write it down. Keeping a note of such kind of achievements is important because it gives you a boost. It makes you feel enthusiastic on days when you feel like quitting blogging. It makes you feel how special you and your blog are.

Get yourself acquainted with the risks involved while entering into long term blogging business. Prepare a backup, in case of an emergency. You would not want your blog to be disturbed if your publishing platform fails.
